You’re probably wondering what happened to Day 4. I didn’t miss it, honest.
Day 4 and Day 5 actually don’t involve writing a post for your blog.
The exercise for Day 4 was to analyze a top blog in my niche. You can probably guess that I chose Michel Fortin’s blog – he’s a bit of a hero for me. Partly because he’s Canadian, but mostly because his blog is great. He and Sylvie put out a ton of terrific content.
For example, if you’re after some solid advice about how to write descriptive copy for something, just pop over to http://www.michelfortin.com/you-ought-to-be-in-pictures/#more-103. Michel has put a great blog post together for you.
Of course, I also looked at a blog by this fellow named Darren Rowse. You know him…he’s the fellow who put together the 31 Days to Build a Better Blog challenge. By the way, if you want a copy of the workbook just go to http://www.problogger.net/31dbbb-workbook. It’s $19.95 and I think it’s well worth the price.
I’m on Day 5 – enjoying it immensely – and believe it will make my blog much better.
Which leads me to Day 5. Today’s exercise is about communicating with your readers.
Darren makes a good point – that you can respond to comments on your blog as well as responding directly to the reader by e-mail.
Ever had a V-8 moment? You know, when you smack your forehead and think “Why didn’t I think of that?” Yea, that’s what happened when I read today’s exercise.
Maybe I’ve just been too tied up in getting book projects finished. Whatever it is, I’m enjoying reading Darren’s workbook and doing the exercises.
That’s it for today. This weekend is filled with final details for launching the 2010 Social Media Directory on Monday.
Which reminds me – you can get a preview chapter at http://www.mysocialmediadirectory.com/preview.html. Let me know if you like it.
Thanks for reading, and have a good weekend.
